Crystals 103 – Crystals for the chakras

In the last article, we discussed how crystal shapes are used for different purposes. In this article, we will go into an overview of the crystals for the various chakras and emotions

What is a Chakra?

Chakras are energetic vortices that are located in the body.

When chakras are working properly, the energy is flowing steadily in a clock-wise direction. If there are blocks, the energy would not be flowing or would be flowing very weakly. The chakra health can be easily determined by holding a pendulum over the chakra. The pendulum will get entrained in the energy field of the chakra and will begin to flow with the energy – ideally in a clock-wise direction with a strong circular motion.

The various chakras are associated with specific aspects of our emotions. We can work on our chakra emotional imbalances with the assistance of crystals.

The color of the crystals generally match the color of the chakra that they assist with – however, that is not always the case.

The Chakras:

  1. Root chakra

         a. Location – base of the spin

         b. Color – red

The root chakra governs our basic needs of survival – our sense of security – physical and financial. If we experience fear in these areas, it can cause an imbalance in this chakra. The root chakra serves to ground us into our bodies and to the earth.

Most of us spend our time focusing on the higher chakras and our connection to the higher realms. However, it is important that we stay grounded while reaching for these higher states of consciousness. By staying grounded, we stay in our body, keep our attention focused, are present and stay in our power.

Having a balanced root chakra is key to spiritual growth.

Crystals for the root chakra:

  • Red jasper
  • Black tourmaline
  • Hematite
  • Smoky Quartz

 2. Sacral chakra

     a. Location – between the navel and the genitals. For women – it would be the womb.

     b.Color – orange

This chakra governs our sexuality, emotions and our creativity. The key to this chakra is to be in the flow, to allow. This is where our passion and attraction to another physically begins.

It is probably one of the most common chakras to be imbalanced through various societal and cultural belief systems regarding sexuality as well as individual trauma.

The crystals associated with this chakra include:

  • Orange calcite
  • Carnelian
  • Topaz

 3. Solar plexus

     a. Location – belly area – above navel, below breastbone

     b. Color – yellow

This chakra is associated with will power, action, vitality and self-esteem. Do we stand in our own power or do we shrink away from the world? Do we consciously direct our energy to make something happen or do we just let life happen to us?

Having a balanced solar plexus is paramount to living from a place of empowerment and inner strength.

Crystals to assist with this chakra include:

  • Tiger’s Eye
  • Amber (mineral)
  • Pyrite

 4. Heart Chakra

    a. Location – Center of the chest, heart area

    b. Color – green and pink

Once we get past the ego, we move to the heart chakra – the center of expansion, the center of love. When the heart chakra is open and balanced, love is experienced as a state of being with no object, as opposed to passionate desire of another from the sacral chakra. This is the ultimate heart chakra state  that we strive for, however, most of us have experienced a broken heart from a relationship ending with another.

The heart chakra is typically green, so why is it that we see rose quartz – a pink crystal associated with the heart chakra? There are actually 2 heart chakras – the heart chakra and the “high heart” chakra. The heart chakra is associated with green, the high heart chakra – with pink. Both colors work with the heart emotions. The high heart chakra is where our higher heart emotions of compassion, empathy and unconditional love stem from.

Below are a list of the various heart chakra crystals and the specific emotion that they can assist with:

 Green:                                                                                    Pink:

  • Aventurine (love later in life)                 Rose Quartz (love, empathy)
  • Chrysoprase (emotional release)         Pink Tourmaline (trust)
  • Moldavite (note – powerful – do           Rhodonite (forgiveness)
  • research before using)

 5. Throat chakra

    a. Location – throat

    b. Color – blue

The throat chakra is associated with our ability to communicate and express our thoughts and feelings to others. The throat chakra is associated with the color blue. A blocked chakra could be an inability to just communicate what we are trying to say, as well as not feeling that we will be heard when we do speak, so not speaking our mind when we should.

Crystals to assist with the throat chakra include:

  • Sodalite – to speak your truth
  • Blue lace agate – to overcome fear of speaking
  • Blue calcite – public speaking

 6. 3rd Eye Chakra

     a. Location – middle of the forehead

     b. Color – purple

The third eye is probably the most common chakra people have heard about and tend to focus on. The third eye is associated with intuition, clairvoyance and visualization. An open and flowing third eye would mean our intuition is heightened as well as our ability to visualize internally. A more fully developed 3rd eye chakra would include various psychic abilities including: seeing auras, precognitive abilities, clairvoyance – the ability to see (past, present, future events in your minds’ eye) as well as remote viewing.

Crystals associated with the 3rd eye chakra include:

  • Iolite
  • Lapis Lazuli
  • Apatite
  • Sugilite
  • Amethyst Note: if you are sensitive to energy, amethyst is a very high vibration crystal and can make you feel ungrounded, or spacey – so check in with yourself to see how you feel after using.

 7. Crown chakra

     a. Location – top of the head

     b. Color – white

As the root chakra helps us to ground to the earth, on the other end of the spectrum, the crown chakra helps us to connect to the higher realms. The higher realms include our connection to our spiritual guidance and to Source.

The crystals associated with the crown chakra include:

  • Scolecite
  • Apophyllite
  • Selenite
  • Azeztulite
  • Petalite

Although I have listed out certain crystals for each chakra, in truth, the crystals can overlap into other areas as they can assist with various emotional issues.  As always, follow your own judgement on what resonates for you.

How to use crystals for the Chakras

It is easiest to just use crystal tumbles for these practices.

Overall chakra balancing:

Place a crystal for each respective chakra on each of the 7 chakras and lie down for 10-15 minutes.

Individual chakra balancing:

  • Place the crystal for the chakra that you are working on, on top of the chakra and leave for 15 minutes.
  • Carry the crystal tumble with you on your person: pocket, bra or handbag.

Do you have a particular crystal that you use for a particular chakra? If so, we’d love to hear what experiences you have had! Please feel free to share any comments on the blog on our website.

In love, light and gratitude,

Heather
